GIRLS FIELD HOCKEY: Algonquin 1, Shrewsbury 1
Algonquin junior Nicole Bishop scored the game-tying goal with 10 minutes left as the Tomahawks battled Shrewsbury to a deadlock in a season-opening Mid-Wach A matchup.
Shrewsbury led 1-0 at halftime before Bishop tied it on an assist from Taylor Johnson. Co-captains midfielder Molly Wright and defender Katie Campbell were standouts for Algonquin against the perennial CMass power.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY: Westborough 21, Algonquin 35
Junior Byron Jones set a course record, covering Algonquin’s 3.0-mile course in 16:22 as his Westborough team opened the season with a non-league win over the Tomahawks.
The Rangers also took second and third with Jeff Bush finishing in 16:30 and Andy Haskell coming in at 18:30.
Algonquin took fourth, fifth and sixth with Jon Scott-Lutke (18:06), Karl Young (18:17) and Jes Schow (18:18) doing the honors.
GOLF: Westborough 194, Algonquin 196
Bob Thompson and Nick DelBuono each shot a 37 as Westborough edged host Algonquin 194-196 in a non-league season opener on the par-35 Juniper Hill Golf Course in Northborough.
Algonquin’s Ethan Miller was the match medalist with a 36. Kurt Schultz shot a 37 and Justin Logan followed with a 40 for the Tomahawks.
Nick Flahive finished with a 38, Jack Wentzel shot a 40 and Pat Hession carded a 42 for Westborough.
