Parking increase at Southborough commuter rail station

Starting Saturday, it will cost twice as much to park your car at the Southborough commuter rail station. The rate will increase from $2.00 per day to $4.00 per day.

Boston.com reports the increase is in response to fiscal challenges faced by the MBTA. A number of commuter rail riders are unhappy with the rate hike. They’re unhappy for the obvious reason that it will cost more to use the train, but they’re also unhappy for a not-so-obvious reason.

The way you pay for parking at the commuter rail is by slipping dollar bills through a slot on the payment board. Turns out four $1 bills are too thick to fit through the slot.
