It’s all about soccer this week as the Algonquin teams pulled off a one-two punch … er, kick. Both the boys and the girls made it through to their respective championship rounds in the Division 1 Central league.

The Algonquin girls soccer team (13-3-5) bested Shrewsbury on Tuesday. They’ll face 7th-seeded Wachusett in the championship on Saturday at 3:00 pm at Auburn High.

On Wednesday, the undefeated Algonquin boys soccer team (19-0-1) tromped Marlborough and earned the right to face 2nd-seeded St. John’s in the finals on Saturday at 5:00 pm at Auburn High.

That will make for quite a double-header.

In other sports news, the Algonquin boys cross country team finished in 8th place at Districts last Saturday. The team of Jon Scott Lutke, Jes Schow, Andrew Farrell, Karl Young, Harry Gore, Conor Healey and Macaulay Gillis led Algonquin to their best District finish in 11 years.

On the girls’ side, the running team of Liz Crowley, Faith Clayton Glynis Healey, Frankie Mueller, Stephnaie Trimboli, Allie Kulig and Tiffany Daley qualified for the state championship meet to be held at Franklin Park this Saturday.
