Superintendent Charles Gobron presented the preliminary Algonquin budget for fiscal year 2010 to the regional school committee last night. The proposed budget totals $18.4 million, which is $1.2 million, or 7.2%, more than the fiscal year 2009 budget.
Like the Northborough and Southborough budgets presented earlier this month, the regional budget is well below level services.
The Metrowest Daily News reports increases came primarily in the areas of contacted teacher salary increases ($415,153) and increases in health insurance costs ($391,928). To offset the increases, Gobron proposed decreases in the areas of administrative, instructional, maintenance, and supply accounts. New initiatives have also been proposed and FY09 budgets have been frozen.
