Before the holidays, I reported that the Advisory Committee had decided to request two sets of budgets from town departments for fiscal year 2010 — a level-services budget and a no-tax-increase budget. Chairman John Butler just posted the official two-budget request on the Advisory Committee website.
In his letter Butler estimates that a no-tax-levy increase could represent a 1.5% to 2% spending decrease for the town budget as a whole, while individual budgets may need to decrease by as much as 5%.
Voters will get both sets of budgets at Town Meeting in April and will be able to pick and choose between them.
