With all the news about swine flu this week, now seems like a good time to talk about emergency preparedness.
Southborough has two emergency response teams — the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) — and they’re both looking for volunteers. The groups will hold a joint open house on Monday night for those interested in learning more.
They’re also offering a class on preparing your family for emergencies.
CERT/MRC support local public safety and health organizations in a number of ways. They’re called upon for the unplanned — traffic control during the recent crash that shut down Route 9 — and the planned — first aid at Summer Nights and Heritage Day, among other activities.
If you’re interested in volunteering, attend the open house on Monday at the Fire Station. The open house runs from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, and the emergency preparedness class goes from 7:30 to 8:30 pm.
