A Southborough resident suffered serious injuries when the car he was driving struck several trees and rolled over on Saturday night. The accident happened shortly after 10:00 pm near the intersection of Woodland Road and Bay Path Lane (map).
It took Southborough Fire and EMS personnel 30 minutes using the jaws of life to free the man from the wreckage. Because of the extent of his injuries, a New England LifeFlight air ambulance was called in.
The LifeFlight helicopter landed on an airstrip off Meadow Lane, but a malfunction with the helicopter stretcher mount prevented an air transport. The man was taken to UMass Memorial Trauma Center by ambulance instead.
Woodland Road was closed for approximately two hours while the driver was rescued and the vehicle was removed from the woods.
No word on the man’s condition or cause of the accident. For full details, visit the fire department website.
