In the media: Foundation honors sisters by promoting safe driving

The Worcester Telegram & Gazette reports that the Murphy Sisters’ Foundation recently made several donations in honor of Algonquin students and Southborough residents Shauna and Meghan Murphy, who were killed in a car accident in 2005.

To promote safe driving, the foundation donated $5,000 to Christo’s Driving School to subsidize the cost of In Control Advanced Driver Training. They also awarded scholarships totaling $12,000 to Algonquin seniors Kelsey Lanning and Theresa Logan, both from Southborough, and gave $8,000 to the Algonquin’s Serenity Garden.

“We felt that, after our accident, we needed to create a higher awareness of the importance of using safe driving principles,” Mr. Murphy said last week. “Our daughters were going 65 in a 35 zone. Combine that with reports of alcohol, and it is an ingredient for a funeral. We felt we needed to do something to promote a more regimented training program.”
