The Southborough Historical Society will hold an open house at the Historical Museum on Sunday to celebrate the opening of several new exhibits, including The Noble Train of Artillery, 1776.
The exhibit features a 16-foot mural painted by local artist Susan Kallander depicting General Henry Knox’s Revolutionary War journey from Fort Ticonderoga to Dorchester Heights, a move that helped drive the British out of Boston.
Knox’s ox-draw sleds passed within yards of the museum. His journey is commemorated by a stone marker in front of the Community House.
The mural was commission by the later Peter Kallander, a long-time Southborough resident, and was donated to the Historical Museum in his honor.
The museum is located at 25 Common Street, just behind Pilgrim Church. It will be open on Sunday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Refreshments will be served and admission is free.
