Rain doesn’t diminish Scouting for Food donations

Thanks to what was left of Hurricane Ida, the rain was coming down hard on Saturday morning, and that had some at Pilgrim Church worried. Volunteers sorting and boxing food collected during the annual Scouting for Food drive were worried the rain might translate into fewer donations.

They needn’t have worried.

Southborough scouts collected over 8,000 pounds of food and other items for the Southborough Food Pantry, blowing away their goal of 5,250 pounds.

Stocks were running low at the food pantry before the drive, but volunteers told me the donations collected on Saturday will help carry them through the winter.

(Update: I just got word that the final total was 8,145 pounds, almost 3000 pounds more than the scout’s goal. Nice work, Southborough!)

I thank the scouts for this important and thoughtful project and their parents for coordinating it. The last minute, well-circulated email reminder was a brilliant idea!

Thank you so much to the Southborough Scouts and their parents, and also the citizens Southborough for a job done truely well in spite of the rain.
