The Metrowest Daily News reported on a couple of items from last week’s Board of Selectmen meeting. Here’s a recap.
Main Street plans to be revisited … again
Back in October, Selectmen considered various plans for how to handle parking along Main Street as part of the ongoing redesign project. They endorsed a plan that called for 4-foot shoulders along the stretch in front of the Common. It’s a plan that would not be all that different from what we have today. And that, says Police Chief Jane Moran and Fire Chief John Mauro, Jr. is a problem.
The safety chiefs asked selectmen to reconsider their endorsement, saying parking along the 4-foot shoulder in front of Morris Funeral Home would make the roadway too tight for car traffic, as well as for fire engines and other emergency vehicles.
Selectmen decided to hold another public hearing on the design. They plan to ask residents along that stretch of Main Street whether they’d be willing to give up some of their property to help resolve the design issues. (Read more)
Marlboro Road water woes continue
A neighborhood dispute over water flow is spilling onto Marlboro Road … literally. Last winter selectmen tried to work with Marlboro Road resident Stephen Stanechewski to stem the flow of water from his yard into the street. DPW Head Karen Galligan said the water run-off presented a public safety hazard when it freezes on the roadway.
Last week Stanechewski’s neighbor Andrew Maffei was before selectmen over a related issue. Galligan told selectmen a berm Maffei built in his yard is contributing to the water problem. No resolution was apparently reached. (Read more – scroll to the end of the article)
No resolution, and with the cold that is upon us, down right dangerous. If the problem stems from a town approved septic design, the town should fix the problem. If it’s something else, hold someone’s feet to the fire and get the problem fixed before some poor motorist is killed driving on the ice that is there.
Let’s look to the meeting that occurred in 1852 for the best way to solve this matter:

Nine residents will be chosen at random to walk the land upon which this problem occurs. The two landowners and the official from the town who approved the septic design will each be given four minutes to speak. The nine residents will then vote. Who is at fault? Majority rules. If the vote results in 3x3x3 tie, the two landowners split the cost of repairs and shake hands.
JM – I like this idea. Like a “Jury of your peers”.
Does anyone know where this spot on Marlboro Road is located?
It’s between 128 and 132 Marlborough Road…..between the traffic light and Acre Bridge Road. All the water and ice………..
