Who knows if it’s our proximity to the starting line in Hopkinton, or all the 5K runs we hold in town that serve as training opportunities, but per capita, Southborough had more residents run the Boston Marathon this year than almost any other town in Massachusetts. Only four towns had a higher per capita rate.
According to statistics published in the Boston Globe, 22 Southborough residents ran the marathon, that calculates to a rate of 23 runners per 10,000 residents. The state average was 3.5 runners per 10,000 residents.
The four towns that outranked us were Hopkinton (43.2), Wellesley (25.0), Brookline (25.0), and Boxborough (23.6).
Southborough resident Chris Wraight didn’t run the marathon, but he was there taking pictures. You can see more of his photos on flickr.
