Local sixth grader in the running to win a national Google contest – you can help!

Northborough sixth grader Bella Alex’s entry in in the Doodle 4 Google competition

This isn’t Southborough news exactly, but it’s exciting enough to share. Northborough sixth grader Isabella (Bella) Alex was recently chosen as a regional finalist in a drawing competition sponsored by Google, and she needs your help to win.

In the Doodle 4 Google competition, Google invited K-12 students to “work their artistic will” upon the Google homepage logo. More than 33,000 entries were submitted by kids across the country. Bella, who called her piece The World As My Canvas, was one of 40 regional finalists selected by a team of judges.

If she wins, not only would Bella see her work displayed on the Google homepage, but she would win a $15K college scholarship. Her school, Melican Middle School, would win a $25K technology award courtesy of Google.

You can help Bella by voting for her entry online. Bella’s entry is in the Grade 4-6 group, Region 1. Voting ends Tuesday, May 25 at 8:00 pm. Spread the word!

Thanks to the many My Southborough readers who emailed me with this tip.
