Photos: Algonquin boys lacrosse wins big, plus updates on other post-season games

The Algonquin boys lacrosse team pulled off a huge upset against Grafton on Saturday in their quarterfinal matchup. Sixth-ranked Algonquin beat third-ranked Grafton by a score of 9 to 7. Sophomore Connor Healey scored five of Algonquin’s goals, and fellow sophomore Dave McGovern scored two.

The win means Algonquin advances to the semifinal round. They’ll face off against St. John’s Tuesday night at 5:00 pm at Foley Stadium in Worcester.

In other post-season news, the Algonquin boys baseball team faces Wachusett today at 4:00 pm in Marlborough in the Division 1 Central quarterfinals. The girls lacrosse team will play a semifinal match on Wednesday at 3:00 pm at Foley Stadium in Worcester. Their opponent is still to-be-determined.

The girls tennis team will also play a semifinal match on Wednesday against a to-be-determined team. Their game starts at 3:00 pm at Algonquin. The girls are looking to repeat their success from last year when they won the state championship title.

Last Friday, the season ended for the boys tennis team with a loss to rival Westborough in the quarterfinal match.
