I can’t say I’ve ever watched much Little League before this summer, and I only ever had vague notions of the Little League World Series in years past. But this year, things are different. I don’t know about you, but thanks to the amazing run by our hometown boys, I now feel surprisingly invested in the New England championships, even though our team is no longer in it.
So, for those of you who feel the same way, here’s an update. The two semi-final games were played last night. Fairfield, CT, the team that knocked Southboro out of the tournament, beat Portsmouth, NH by a score of 10-8. And in a heartbreaker, Shelburne, VT, the team that squeaked into the semi-finals when Southboro lost, fell to undefeated Cumberland, RI on a walk-off home run.
That sets up a New England championship game Saturday night at 7:00 pm between Connecticut and Rhode Island. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN.
Who would you like to see win the championship? Or now that Southboro is no longer in it, have all thoughts of Little League fled your consciousness? Take the poll.
