The budget season is underway, and the Southborough School Committee will soon get its first look at how things are shaping up for next year. Superintendent Charles Gobron said he would present an initial budget at the committee’s meeting on Wednesday.
In November, the school committee agreed they wanted to place a high priority on restoring teaching positions lost this year. “We have 24 kids in some of our fourth grade classes this year, and that’s not ideal,” committee member Marybeth Strickland said. “I have a personal goal of trying to get back some of those teachers.”
Last April, town meeting voters approved a school budget that called for the elimination of six teaching positions and more than three support positions.
The school committee meeting will take place on Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the library at Trottier. It’s open to the public. You can see the full agenda here.
