Public hearing on K-8 budget Wednesday night

Superintendent Charles Gobron will present the latest K-8 budget at a public hearing at Trottier tomorrow night.

It’s a budget many in town have been waiting for. Both the Advisory Committee and Board of Selectmen have said they can’t make further decisions about town budgets without knowing the latest from the schools. Back in February selectmen asked the schools to trim their proposed $17 budget by $2M.

Complicating this year’s budget is the fact that the schools are in negotiations with the teachers union on a new contract. There’s been no official word on the status of the talks, but Gobron said previously he was hopeful negotiations would be wrapped up before Wednesday’s meeting.

The meeting is open to the public, and all residents are invited to attend to hear the budget presentation. Public comment will be welcomed. The hearing starts at 6:30 pm in the library at Trottier Middle School (second floor).

If you can’t make tomorrow’s meeting, you’ll have another chance to hear about the school budget at one of two forums scheduled for later this month. Gobron will host a budget discussion on Thursday, March 24 at 9:00 am and again at 7:00 pm. Both sessions will be held in the Woodward School cafeteria and both are open to the public.
