Voter turnout yesterday may have been light, but the voters who did show up overwhelmingly chose Dan Kolenda to fill a vacancy on the Board of Selectmen. Kolenda captured 77% of the vote, while Jeffrey Rosenberg, the other candidate for Selectman, received 21%.
None of the other races were contested, and there were no surprises in any of the results. All uncontested candidates won their races.
There was a bit of drama on election day as resident Paul Morin launched a write-in campaign for a seat on the Housing Authority, challenging candidate Jean Chappelle. Write-in votes had not been tallied as of last night, but with only 70 write-ins total for Housing Authority, Town Clerk Paul Berry declared Chappelle, who received 533 votes, the winner.
“There’s no way Mr. Morin could have won,” Berry said.
In what was perhaps a reflection of the generally low-key election season, few Southborough residents made their way to the polls yesterday. Only 814 residents — 12% of registered voters — cast a ballot. Berry characterized the turnout as “extremely low.”

Kolenda is expected to attend his first Board of Selectmen meeting tonight starting at 7:00 pm at the Town House.
