The spring postseason is officially underway, and the Algonquin boys lacrosse, girls lacrosse, girls softball, boys tennis, and girls tennis teams will all get to make a run for the title. Here are more details.
Boys lacrosse
With a 16-4 regular season record and the top seed going into the tournament, the Algonquin boys lacrosse team is the one to beat in the Central division. They had a bye in the first round, and will play in the quarterfinals on Saturday against either 8th-ranked Nashoba (11-8) or 9th-ranked Shrewsbury (11-8). The game starts at 4:30 pm at Algonquin.
Girls lacrosse
With a bye in the first round, the 3rd-seed Algonquin girls lacrosse team (16-4) kicks off their postseason run on Saturday with a quarterfinal match against 6th-ranked Shrewsbury (13-7). The game starts at 2:30 at Algonquin.
Girls softball
The Algonquin girls softball team enters the tournament with a 12-8 record as the 6th seed. They’ll play 11th-seed Doherty (7-13) on Friday at 3:15 pm at Algonquin.
Boys tennis
While the girls softball team is on the diamond tomorrow, the 6th-seed Algonquin boys tennis team (11-5) will be on the courts facing off against 11th-seed South High Community (8-8) in first-round play. The match starts at 3:00 pm at Algonquin.
Girls tennis
The Algonquin girls tennis team is no stranger to the postseason. Last year they captured the Central Division 1 title (but fell in the state semifinals) and the year before they took home the state championship. With a record of 15-1, the 2nd-seed girls will this year start their postseason run on Monday, June 6 against either 7th-seed Quabbin (11-6) or 10th-seed Milford (11-7). The match starts at 3:15 pm at Algonquin.
