The Algonquin boys lacrosse team lived up to expectations on Saturday, but it didn’t come easily. The top-seed boys captured the Central Division 2 championship with an overtime win over St. John’s at Foley Stadium in Worcester. The final score was 10-9. You can read more about the game here in TheDailyNorthborough.com and here in the Metrowest Daily News.

The boys now head to the state semi-finals on Tuesday where they’ll face Longmeadow. The game starts at 7:00 pm at Foley Stadium.

The Algonquin girls lacrosse team also played in the division finals on Saturday, but they lost a hard-fought match to rival Westborough by a score of 12-8. You can read more about the game here in TheDailyNorthborough.com and here in the Metrowest Daily News.

Also this weekend, the Assabet girls softball team competed in the Central Division 3 championship. Unfortunately, the top-seed Aztecs were upset by 11th-seed Quaboag by a score of 9-1.

Southborough photographer Chris Wraight (www.thawkspix.com) made the rounds through this weekend’s games and sent in these photos (click to enlarge).

Great season by a terrific TEAM!!!

I’d like to point out 2 terrific kids who received recognition and are pictured accepting the trophy in Chris’ photo shown above:

Southborough’s Billy Hegarty Academic All-American – heading to US Naval Academy
Northboro’s Nick Mazzola All-American – heading to University of Maryland

That’s a phenomenal accomplishment! Congratulations Boys !!!!!!
