The Algonquin boys lacrosse team sure has a flair for the dramatic. In yet another overtime victory, the boys squeaked by Longmeadow in the state semifinals last night by a score of 9-8. Last Saturday they won in overtime against St. John’s to capture the division title, and the game before that saw them defeat Grafton in another sudden-death overtime.

With yesterday’s win, Algonquin will face Medfield in the state championship game on Friday at 7:00 pm at Foley Stadium in Worcester.

Southborough photographer Chris Wraight was at the semifinal game at Foley Stadium last night and sent in this recap:

Algonquin came out shooting, leading 4-0 by the end of the first period. At the end of the second period, they still lead, 6-3, but they were shut out in the third, while Longmeadow clawed back to lead 8-7. At the end of the fourth period, they got key goals from Mike Wood and Zack Tarallo. But Longmeadow tied it up at 8-8 with less than two minutes to go. At the 3:28 mark of sudden death OT, Dave McGovern scored the game winner.

Chris also sent along his usual batch of excellent photos (click to enlarge).
