Two sisters from Southborough, Kayla and Joli Dantz, competed in a national rhythm dance competition last month as part of a team from Westborough’s Rhythm Dance Company. Here’s a press release with all the details:
Rhythm Dance Company (RDC) participated in StarPower’s National Championships held in Uncasville, CT on June 26-30, 2011. StarPower is one of the largest talent competitions in America. StarPower’s stages host tens of thousand of performers of all ages coast to coast and has even branched out to London, England and Canada.
Rhythm Dance Company qualified to compete in the National Finals at StarPower’s Regional Competition in Springfield, MA in April 2011. RDC brought 46 entries to Nationals and returned home with several of their groups, a soloist, and trio ranking in the top 10 in their divisions.
StarPower features The Battle of the Stars, which is the final competition of all the top, high-scoring groups from the StarPower World Championships. The event is held on the last day of competition and streamed on a live webcast.
Rhythm Dance Company’s group “Pull of The Moon” was one of six groups (out of approximately 60) chosen to participate in Battle of the Stars in their age division. The Contemporary Small Group was awarded 2nd Place in the final event. Nicole Newman Kelley choreographed the routine.
Kelley (Owner/Director of Rhythm Dance Company) says, “This was an amazing achievement for this group! All 5 students have put in a great amount of effort and dedication into this piece. All of the RDC dancers have worked so hard this year and have done a tremendous job at the 4 Regional and National Competitions we attended.” Other achievements RDC students accomplished this year include the title of Teen Miss Starquest, Top Scores in Solo and Group Divisions, Special Judges’ Awards, Choreography Awards, and elite invitations to summer programs.

Yay for Joli and Kayla! Too bad no one sent Susan a picture, because they are gorgeous girls.
If you go to the website, there are some photos from the studio and a video clip.
I can’t believe I’m seeing this for the first time! Kayla’s teacher from last year told me about it.
