I know there are many pressing issues facing us this summer, but what I really want to know is how people feel about the local ice cream stand … Uhlman’s v. Trombetta’s? Who has the best ice cream?

Glad there’s still a Brigham’s ice cream store in Hopkinton next to Hopkinton Drug on Rt 85. The BEST vanilla ice cream evah!

I'm just sayin'....

Uhlman’s without a doubt :-) However, Trombetta’s hot dog cart has the best hotdogs…try one with sauerkraut…yum!!!!

Speaking of hotdogs, the Recession Stand on Route 30 in Southborough is great. The hot dogs are delicious and they have a large menu of other choices as well.

I wish we had a farmer’s market in town, is there one that you go to every week?

A friend of mine sent me this link for the local farmer’s markets. I haven’t been to anyone yet. Check this out and let us know what you think.

Snappy dogs in the parking lot of Colellas in Hopkinton ROCKS! The two farmer’s markets I go to are in Grafton and at Weston Nurseries in Hopkinton. Both have organic produce, not exclusively, but they have some. Grafton’s is on Thursdays, I think, and Weston’s is on Fridays beginning at noon.

Ann, You may want to try the new, Thursday afternoon, Farmer’s Market in Westboro just west of the rotary on Rte 30. at the church next to the library. Last week it was busy, but tomorrow it may not be with the heat. The farmer’s market website will tell you about who is there. The bakers were great too.

Thanks for the link. I hear this one is great! There is a cheese farm, a beef farm and Yummy Mummy Brownies will be there too according to the flyer I printed. I can’t get there this week but will be there next week for sure!

The Grafton market is right on the Common, which is very lovely. I may try Westborough today. Thanks for the tip Carol.

There’s a farmers’ market on the Framingham Green on Fridays. I haven’t been so I can’t say how it is.

The market on the Framingham Green had been on Fridays, but is now on Thursdays from 12:30 to 5:30 according to one site.

I ran into an elderly woman the other day who had been friends with my parents for years. I think she’s been in Southborough longer than I have been alive. We chatted about a few things, which led to a conversation about the weather in general, the recent heat wave in particular. She had seen on the local cable channel and some local websites that a cooling station was being set up at the Senior Center on Cordaville Road, for those who needed some relief from the sweltering heat. Then she asked me ” If you don’t have cable television, or internet access, how would anyone know about the Senior Center being open?” Well, I didn’t have any good answers. But I have given much thought to this because Southborough still has a lot of elderly folks who don’t live in air conditioned homes, don’t have cable TV, and probably don’t bother with computers. Some read the local newpapers, but may have missed any article suggesting cooling stations. Was there a reverse 9-1-1 done for all the residents? I don’t remember receiving any such calls and I was home during that heat. If not, it would make perfect sense to me to have a reverse 9-1-1 issued for such a purpose. Summer isn’t over by a long shot, and we could have another heat wave similar to what we just went through. The town should use all means available to notify residents when something like a cooling station is opening so that those aformentioned folks would have a better chance of becoming aware of options available to them. Protecting folks, especially our elderly from extreme heat is just as important as reporting bear sightings.

Greats point. Of note, if you only have a cell phone in your home, you don’t get reverse 911 calls. There has to be a way to get the information out to the elderly. They are the ones who need the cooling stations the most.

Just wondering ...

Is there a good place to fill propane tanks near Southborough?

BJ’s in Westboro. You don’t have to be a member but if you aren’t you pay more. Go around to the automotive office on the side of the building.

We have always gone to Monnick Supply in Marlborough. I have sometimes filled 2-3 tanks and they always carry and lift them into my car for me.

Where can we get information about things like last night’s flyovers? between 10 and 11:20 last night, there were three low flyovers of loud aircraft, one or more headed east, then a whole bunch headed west at 11, and then one headed east, seemingly following route 30 or the reservoir. I’m more curious than anything else.

There’s an article on boston.com this evening about urban military training; perhaps we were included in the planning.
