Downtown fixture Ernie’s Barber Shop will be closing its doors on Friday after 40 years in business. The Metrowest Daily News today has a nice profile of owner Ernie Richard.
“I’m going to miss the camaraderie with my customers,” many of whom he has been serving for decades, Richard said.
“Everybody tells you everything,” he said with a smile. “It’s like being a bartender for sober people.”
Richard, who was raised in Leicester and lives in Westborough, said many of the stories he’s heard will never go beyond the barber’s chair.
“I had the good sense never to repeat anything,” he said. “The people of Southborough are very nice, and it’s been a great 40 years.”
I can only imagine the stories he’s heard over the years. Join me in wishing Ernie a happy retirement, and be sure to check out the full story here.
Good luck Ernie.
Does anybody know who or what is going into that space or is it going dark? And whatever happened with the big red brick building around the corner from there that was for sale a while back? I wont even ask about the old %$%$$%! gas station across from Ernie’s place…
Best of Luck to you ! A decent and nice man.
Ernie’s a good man. I wish him the best – I know he loves heading for the Cape in his RV!
Ernie,
Thank you for your confidentiality. Just kidding but I will miss you.
Good luck Ernie and have fun in retirement.
A lot of laughs over the years.
