“You Can If You Will” Speaker Series at Fay School, Thursday, September 15
On Thursday, September 15, at 7:00pm in Harris Theater, Fay is honored to welcome Paralympic Hall of Famer Chris Waddell, who will speak prior to a screening of his documentary film, One Revolution. The film tells the amazing story of Waddell’s courageous climb to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro using a specially designed hand cycle. The essence of Chris’s message is, “It’s not what happens to you, it’s what you do with what happens to you.”
Paralyzed from the waist down after a skiing accident in 1988, Waddell went on to become the most decorated male skier in Paralympic history, winning twelve medals over four games. In the fall of 2009, Waddell became the first paraplegic to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro unassisted.
In 2010, Waddell was inducted into both the Paralympic Hall of Fame and the US Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame. He was named the Dalai Lama’s “Unsung Hero of Compassion.” He has been featured in numerous publications, including Outside Magazine, Skiing, Ski, National Geographic Explorer, and People Magazine, which named him one of “The 50 Most Beautiful People in the World.” Waddell has appeared on Dateline and Oprah, and this past July, he was featured on ABC 20/20’s “Super Humans” segment. In addition to the free film screening on Thursday evening, during the day on Thursday, Mr. Waddell will be giving presentations about his philosophy, “It’s not what happens to you, but what you do with what happens to you,” to students in grades 3-9 at Fay School, and in grades 4-5 at Southborough’s Margaret A. Neary Elementary School. In total, about 600 students in town will hear Mr. Waddell’s inspiring message next Thursday!
