The Southborough Police Department is going social. with a new page on the social networking site Facebook. In a press release, the department said their presence on Facebook is an attempt to better connect with Southborough residents.
While reading the local blogs online, we’ve noticed that some in our community are wondering what the police department “really does” on a day-to-day basis. This is our opportunity to connect with them; show them what we do; share news and information with them; and in doing so, ultimately provide a safer community for the residents of this town.
The department said they plan to post a range of information on their Facebook page, from reports of criminal activity, vandalism, missing persons, public scams, and weather alerts along with department goings-on like hiring and promotions.
In one of its first posts, the department shared that it recovered thousands of dollars of stolen lawn maintenance equipment at the home of a Boston Road resident who last week was charged with stealing kayaks from Hopkinton State Park.
The department said it’s following the model of other police departments across the country that have leveraged Facebook to reach their community as part of a “modern day policing” strategy.
You can view the Southborough Police Department Facebook page even if you don’t have a Facebook account. If you do have an account, “like” the page to get updates in your news feed and to comment on posts.
