In 2006 Cavalier Coach took over the former Gulbankians bus route the ran from downtown Southborough to Boston. Since state subsidies for the bus line ended in 2008, the company has struggled to keep the route going, and later this month they plan to end it for good.
“I’ve tried my best to hang on,” Joan Libby, owner of the Boston-based bus company told the Metrowest Daily News, but “it’s a dollar-and-cents decision. I can’t afford to keep it running. … We’re losing over $200 a day” on the single inbound run each weekday morning and the evening outbound run. “We’re averaging (ridership of) about 15 to 20 people” a day.
The last trip will be on October 21.
