Is your eighth grader considering Assabet? Here’s information from the school on how to go about getting a tour.
Assabet Valley Regional Technical high School will be hosting 8th grade students from most of its sending school districts over the next few weeks for tours of the technical programs.
“This is a valid lesson for students in career awareness, opening their eyes to possibilities they may never have considered. Whether or not they choose to follow their dreams through our technical programs, they may see or learn things about careers that will help them tailor the rest of their education. As the United States gets further behind in providing a skilled workforce in the medical field, manufacturing, and biotechnology, it is absolutely crucial that more students realize that one way to earn a good living and be a productive citizen is in learning a skill, with or without college. We try to give them information about career paths, further education necessary, and job potentials. Our students delight in showing off what they’ve been doing, and explaining why they chose the program they did. We look forward to having the 8th graders and their teachers and guidance counselors come through the building,” explains Alyssia Berghaus, Director of Pupil Personnel Services at Assabet.
In the past, all 8th graders in the sending public schools visited Assabet, but this year, parents should check the Assabet website, www.assabettech.com, to find out if and when their school has scheduled a tour. For those not scheduled, and for students in private schools, please call the Admissions office at 508-485-9430, ext. 1250, to arrange a personal or small group tour.
The school would also like to invite all 8th grade students and their parents to their annual Exhibit/Admissions Night, Wednesday, December 7th, from 6 until 8:30 PM. There will be Admissions presentations outlining the application process at 6 and again at 7 PM in the school auditorium. Reservations are not necessary. The entire school will be open, and visitors may tour the technical programs, talk to instructors, coaches, and current students. “Everyone enjoys explaining the Assabet difference, how students get not only a diploma, but a Certificate of Proficiency in a technical program, so that both career and college are options for all,” continues Berghaus.
