Reminder: Put out your Scouting For Food bag on Saturday

A reminder to put your Scouting For Food bag out by your mailbox by 9:00 am on Saturday. Scouts will be by to pick up the bags and deliver them to Pilgrim Church where volunteers will sort and pack up the food.

Everything collected during the food drive will go to the Southborough Food Pantry. It’s their biggest drive of the year, and your donations will help them get through the upcoming winter.

If your bag disappeared in the snow, or if you misplaced it in the post-storm power outage, not to worry. You can put out a regular grocery bag. In fact, you can put out multiple grocery bags and the Scouts will gladly collect them all.

Here’s a list of some of the items the food pantry needs most. Please remember to check expiration dates on all food items. If it’s past its expiration date, the pantry will have to throw it out.

  • Canned meats (e.g. chicken, ham)
  • Beef stew and soups
  • Canned vegetables
  • Solid white tuna
  • Peanut butter (chunky) and jelly
  • Tomato products (e.g. pasta sauce, diced/stewed tomatoes)
  • Rice and pasta
  • Cereal, jelly
  • Coffee (regular or instant)
  • Cake or brownie mixes
  • Paper products (paper towels, napkins, and tissue)
  • Shampoo and soap (bottles)
  • Laundry and dish detergent
  • Toothpaste
  • Household cleaning products

We placed a bag of food by our mailbox this morning around 8:15am and it hasn’t been picked up as of this writing at 3pm. Does anyone know how long they will be collecting? If for some reason our house was missed, I’d be happy to take it to Pilgrim Church.

If you still have your bag, you can bring it to any Southborough church tomorrow. Thank you for your support! We raised over 10, 000 pounds today! Great job everyone and a special shoutout to our co-chairs Marijke Munsiff and Andrew Seto!
