Recognizing that families are busier than ever these days, Pilgrim Church has decided to offer a church service on Wednesday evenings. The hope is that families with full schedules on the weekends will be able to attend a service during the week.
The service will be held on the second Wednesday of each month, starting with a service tomorrow. Here are more details from the church.
Pilgrim Congregational Church of Southborough is expanding its service offerings. In addition to its Sunday services at both 8:45 am and 10:00 am, it is now offering a worship experience the second Wednesday of every month at 6:45 pm.
Located at 15 Common Street in Southborough, Pilgrim Church has been part of the spiritual growth of the community since 1831.
“We are very excited to have a team of people ready to provide another opportunity during the week for people to connect and worship,” said Head Minister Jon Wortmann.
The motivation behind the additional service is families constantly being pulled into sporting events on Sundays. “Over the last 10 year we have seen a growing trend of families who love Pilgrim, who want to be there, missing church services because of increased sports schedules.” commented Wortmann.
“So many families want to keep a strong faith in their lives and be a part of church but have been pulled to sporting events for the kids on Sundays as well,” shared Peter Martin, a deacon who will help lead the new service. “This will allow families another time slot during the week, once a month, to attend a service. Everyone can make it to church nine times a year. It will be shorter than the Sunday service but, nonetheless, people can stop, relax, and focus on their faith,” Martin said.
The service will run from 6:4 5pm to 7:25 pm on the second Wednesday of every month from September through June. The family-focused service will use the same scripture from the previous Sunday, with messages and exercises that reach kids and adults. “God is on the sports field as well as church, of course, but we want to make sure there is more time for families to experience their faith together in our sacred space.”
“We can’t say for certain,” said Wortmann, “But we’re pretty sure kids who work on their faith perform better on the athletic field too.”
