It was a heartbreaker at Foley Stadium last night. The Algonquin girls field hockey team lost in sudden-death overtime in the state semifinal game after Longmeadow scored on a lucky bounce with only 2:31 left to play. The final was 1-0.
Despite the loss, Coach Dan Welty said the division champs still had much to be proud of. “Last year, teams looked at us and said ‘they graduated some top seniors, what are they going to do next year?’,” he told TheDailyNorthborough.com. “We had that depth [this year]. For us to come back and defend the Central Mass title this year is unbelievable.”
