Herald: Animal rights activist within striking distance of Southborough

Did you hear about this? Animal rights terrorism suspect Daniel Andreas San Diego is on the run from authorities and as of last week was thought to be hiding in Western Mass. Authorities say that puts him within striking distance of several Massachusetts laboratories that use animals in their research – including the Primate Center in Southborough.

Reports the Boston Herald:

If San Diego is indeed in or around Northampton, that would put him roughly within 60 miles of Harvard Medical School’s New England Primate Research Center in Southboro, which has been heavily criticized by animal rights activists. A spokesman for the center referred comment to Harvard University.

In August the Primate Center was issued five citations by the USDA after a monkey died due to improperly administered anesthesia. The citations followed an incident last year in which the body of a monkey was found in a cage that had been passed through a cage-washing machine. The Primate Center was issued a warning for violations of the federal Animal Welfare Act after that incident.

San Diego, a strict vegan, has been on the run for eight years. He is suspected of planting bombs at two research facilities in California. If you have any information on his whereabouts, you’re urged to contact the FBI in Boston at 617-742-5533 or the FBI in San Francisco at 415-553-7400.
