An Ashland man was arrested yesterday afternoon after police say he broke into a vacant home and stole copper pipes and fixtures. From the Southborough Police Department Facebook page:
On 11/29/11 at 3:40 pm., Southborough officers responded to a report of a suspicious male, hanging around the outside of an abandoned house on Oak Hill Road. Responding officers located the male, coming from the back of the abandoned home upon their arrival. Officers found the residence, and the neighboring vacant home had been broken into, and observed that several copper pipes, fixtures, and wires were gathered together to be taken from the house.
The suspect was charged with breaking and entering in the daytime with intent to commit a felony, trespassing, and malicious destruction of property.
Police say they were able to stop the crime thanks to a vigilant neighbor. “It is a tremendous help when residents call in something that seems suspicious to them. This case proves that!” police wrote on Facebook. “We want to hear from you; even if you think that what you’re reporting may not end up being anything.”
Great work by a neighbor watching out for another neighbor and fast work by the Southborough Police. Thanks!!!
