There has been another home break-in in Southborough this week. Just one day after interrupting a break-in on Oak Hill Road, police yesterday afternoon responded to a home on Main Street that bad been broken into at some point during the day.
On their Facebook page, Southborough police said an unknown suspect or suspects forced their way in through the front door of the home located on the west end of Main Street near the 495 overpass, and took several items including jewelry and electronics. The residents were not home at the time of the break in.
On Tuesday afternoon, police arrested a suspect after he allegedly broke into two abandoned homes on Oak Hill Road with the intent to steal copper pipes and fixtures. Earlier in the month, two suspects were arrested after a nighttime break-in on Sears Road when the residents were at home. Two other suspects escaped the scene.
Police said the number of home break-ins in town is “increasing slightly,” which they say is not uncommon for this time of year as thieves turn stolen goods into cash. You might remember last year at this time Southborough was hit by a rash of home break-ins. A suspect was eventually arrested.
Many home break-ins involve two suspects, police say. One suspect is dropped off near the targeted home while the other stays in the area in a vehicle waiting for the first to call. If you see someone being dropped off in a neighborhood who doesn’t appear to have any purpose there, you’re urged to call the Southborough Police Department at (508) 485-2121.
