Time for another open thread. For those of you new to the blog, the open discussion thread is your place to ask questions, sound off on town issues, or share information with other readers. Here are some suggestions to get you started:
- Ask questions about programs in town or the town itself
- Post a note about things that you’re selling or giving away, or things that you want
- Share notices about upcoming events (Southborough or otherwise)
- Register your thoughts on town issues or news stories
- Point out interesting or helpful resources
You can add comments to the thread throughout the week. Check back often to see new comments. (If you read the blog via email or RSS, you might want to check the site from time to time for new comments.)

I saw a story in the Metrowest News about Hudson’s Police Chief and their legal bills $500,000 (Half a MILLION) worth. The money was spent on legal problems in the Police Department. It would be interesting to see how much the legal bills for Southborough PD have been over the last 4 years. If any of these current problems turn into law suits (by civilians or this officer) how much higher would they go? Could the Town’s insurance company refuse to pay a claim if they become aware this was a problem and the town failed to deal with it properly and a person gets hurt or killed by the release of a prisoner ?
In the wake of all the recent area break-ins, I feel that it is important to share suspicious activity with both each other and the police department. A couple weeks ago, I was home alone while my wife and kids were visiting family. Typically, we turn our front door lights on for a few hours in the evening and have a lot of interior lights on as our kids bounce around the house. The night that I was home alone, I had limited interior lights on and the front door lights were off. At approximately 8:30pm, I received an unexpected knock on the front door and opened the door to a man holding a large box that he claimed contained pizza that was ordered to our home address. I barely had time to let him know that I didn’t order the pizza before he was hustling to his car. I reported the incident to the PD and I’m wondering if anyone else experienced similar occurrences. In hindsight, I should have grabbed his plate number but I was too worried about being charged for pizza that I didn’t order. Let’s keep our guard up!
I too have gotten worried. Last friday I noticed a car pulled over near my house with its hazards on at 430 am. I watched for a little bit and saw the car slowly rolling up the street. I then turned on my living room lights and the car suddenly did a 180 and took off down the street. Very strange. Definatly have my guard up.
Townie,
That sounds like my paper delivery guy! Hope that’s all it is…
Thats what I thought at first, but the sudden turn around and obvious speeding off was just odd.
Great advice to report ANY suspicious activity~ what you described happened to us too- before Christmas and we didn’t think to report it. Our house is #8 and is clearly visible, yet the man (late 40’s) asked if we were #10 and took right off after we said “no”. We never got the name of the pizza place or his plate. We will definitely be more aware of the details next time and report this kind of activity if it happens again.
If it achieves nothing else, this thread explains why all the pizzas I order are cold.
I have been following this blog about many break in stories in southborough and getting worried about safety in this town. Is this happening only in southborough? Or Such things happen in most of the towns and I am following closely only southborough town news?
May be someone there feels the same!!
Hi all,
Off the break-in topic… :)
I’m looking to rent my house I bought a few years ago. I’ve listed it on Craigslist but I was wondering about other resources.
I’d love to rent to people that are looking to establish ties to the town. The people on this blog seem to care deeply about the things so I thought I’d bring it up! If anybody knows someone…
Thank you!

I’m growing concerned about the Fire Chief search. The committee meets on Friday the 13th in executive session to discuss candidates again. They really need to get a move on…Marlborough and Uxbridge will be advertising for chiefs shortly. That will most likely have an effect on the field of viable candidates.
Anybody else loose water pressure late last night?
