With Southborough’s months-long search for a new fire chief hopefully nearing its conclusion, three candidates will be interviewed by the Board of Selectmen tomorrow night. It is not known whether the board will vote on an appointment at tomorrow’s meeting or at a future date.
The search for a new chief began over the summer with the formation of a screening committee. In November, the committee advanced two finalists. After one of the two dropped out, Selectmen interviewed the remaining candidate, Fred Mitchell of Cumberland, RI, but decided to defer their decision in hopes of finding additional candidates.
In January the screening committee recommended Southborough firefighters Lt. Christian Dano and Captain Joseph Mauro also be considered for the position. Joseph Mauro is the brother of former Fire Chief John Mauro Jr. who retired in September.
The interviews tomorrow night at Cordaville Hall (Senior Center, 9 Cordaville Road) will be open to the public. Here’s the schedule:
6:00 pm – Fred Mitchell
6:15 pm – Chris Dano
6:45 pm – Joseph Mauro
(Mitchell only gets 15 minutes because selectmen already interviewed him back in December.)
The interviews will not be broadcast live, but they will be taped and aired later on public access television. A broadcast schedule will be posted here when available.
