Last month I told you about two Trottier students – Amanda Carroll and Zach Zides – who qualified to take part in the Knights of Columbus State Free Throw Finals after several rounds of local and regional competition. Today comes this report of how the two fared against their competition.
Writes a My Southborough reader:
This past Saturday, Amanda and Zach were at Regis College in Weston to participate in the Knights of Columbus sponsored Massachusetts State Free Throw Finals. Each of the participants there were regional champions from the five regions across Massachusetts within their respective age-gender groups. The participants in Weston represented the top five free throw shooters in the state, having won among the local, district and regional qualifiers, with several hundred shooters participating initially at the local levels.
And now for the good part…..
In front of hundreds of spectators, both Amanda and Zach represented Southborough quite well, finishing first and third in their respective groups. In her group, Amanda was the first to shoot, and was able to knock down nineteen out of twenty-five shots. Her next closest competitor kept the contest close, hitting eighteen out of twenty five shots. With the win, Amanda captured the State Title among the twelve year old girls.
Zach also performed very well in the highly competitive eleven year old boys group, hitting twenty out of twenty-five and coming within only one shot of the eventual winner. With his efforts, Zach took third place among the eleven year old boys group. Both kids performed well under pressure in front of a packed gymnasium.
If you happen to see the kids around town, be sure to congratulate them on their accomplishments and know that they represented our town well with their outstanding performances.
Congrats to Amanda and Zach!
That’s an outstanding accomplishment, congratulations to both!
