Postseason update: Algonquin boys lacrosse, baseball advance; girls tennis out

It was a nail-biter for the Algonquin boys lacrosse team last night at Foley Stadium, but the T-Hawks pulled out a 7-6 win against St. John’s in the Central Division 2 semifinals. Sophomore Mike Wood scored the final two goals, including the game-winner which came with just 3:54 left to play.

The top-ranked boys will defend their Central Mass championship in the finals on Saturday against 3rd-seed Grafton. The game starts at 3:15 pm at Foley Stadium in Worcester.

After a rain-delay on Monday, the 10th-seed Algonquin baseball team took the field yesterday to face 2nd-seed Burncoat. The game was worth the wait as Algonquin pull off a 9-6 upset in the Central Division 1 quarterfinals. The boys move on to face 6th-seed Saint Peter Marian in the semifinals on Thursday at 7:00 pm at Tivnan Field in Worcester.

For the Algonquin girls tennis team, yesterday was the end of the road. The 7th-seed girls were knocked out of the playoffs in the quarterfinals by 2nd-seed Wachusett. The final score was 4-1.
