Yesterday was a big day in Algonquin sports. Both the boys and girls lacrosse teams won their respective Central Division championship games. The boys beat Grafton by a score of 11-9 and the girls triumphed over Westborough by a score of 7-5. Both teams will move on to the state tournament with semifinal games on Tuesday.
Also on Saturday, the Algonquin girls rugby team won the Massachusetts Youth Rugby Organization State Championship in Pittsfield.
Algonquin wasn’t the only local school to take home a title on Saturday. The top-ranked Assabet softball team won the Central Division 3 title, beating Blackstone Valley by a score of 6-4.
(Whew! That’s a lot of champtionships!)
Algonquin baseball is hoping to add another title to the school’s winning weekend. After upsetting 6th-seed Saint Peter Marian in the semifinals yesterday by a score of 4-3, 10th-seed Algonquin will face top-seed St. John’s tonight in the Central Division 1 championship game. The game starts at 7:00 pm at Tivnan Field in Worcester.
I’ll have photos and more details on the lacrosse win, as well as results from tonight’s baseball game, on the blog tomorrow, so be sure to check back.
The Algonquin Boys and Girls track teams competed in the New England Championships after qualifying in the State Meet on Tuesday night at Fitchburg State. 6 boys and 6 girls went to Saco, ME to compete in the NE Championship.
