Southborough fourth grader Patrick Solomon has proven he can pitch, he can hit, and he can run. This weekend he’ll take his skills to Fenway Park.
At Fenway, Patrick will compete in the regional championships of Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit and Run competition. Earlier this spring he came in first in his age group in the sectional competition, and his scores were good enough to advance him to the regional round this weekend. Twelve other sectionals were held across New England, and only the top three in each age and gender group across all sectionals make it to Fenway Park.
Pitch, Hit, Run is a three-part skill-based competition in which young players are judged on their ability to throw strikes to a designated target, hit from a stationary batting tee for distance and accuracy, and sprint around the bases.
Each of the 30 MLB teams hosts its own regional Pitch, Hit, and Run championship. This weekend at Fenway, Patrick will face two other competitors in the 12-year-old age group. His scores will be compared to the 29 other winners from across the country, and the top three in each age and gender group will get an all-expense paid trip to the All-Star Game in Kansas City in July to compete in the National Finals.
The names of the national finalists will be announced on Sunday during MLB Tonight on the MLB Network starting at 6:00 pm.
Best of luck to Patrick this weekend!
