Southborough police report an armed robbery took place at Fitzgerald’s Market on Southville Road on Wednesday evening. No injuries were reported, but the suspect got away with an unknown amount of cash.
According to a police statement, a heavy-set white man entered Fitzgerald’s at approximately 5:00 pm on Wednesday. The man brandished a knife and ordered the employee to give him money. The clerk handed over an unknown amount of cash and the suspect fled the store.
Southborough police, along with Ashland and Hopkinton police, searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
Southborough has seen a handful of armed robberies in recent years. In October 2011, Southborough Auto Body on Route 9 was robbed at gunpoint. In October 2010, a man with a gun attempted to rob a woman sitting in her car outside of Bill’s Liquors. In September 2009, two men with ski masks and silver revolvers robbed the Wendy’s on Route 9.
