Cumberland Farms president to speak at Southborough Library on Thursday

Southborough resident Ari Haseotes, president and COO of Cumberland Farms, will be at the Southborough Library on Thursday to share a look inside the family-run business. It’s the latest installment in the library’s Inside Story speaker series. The talk starts at 7:00 pm. Here’s more info:

The Southborough Library’s Southborough Business Network (SBN) continues the INSIDE STORY speaker series on Thursday, September 13, at 7:00 p.m. at the Southborough Library, 25 Main Street, Southborough. Mr. Ari N. Haseotes, President and Chief Operating Officer of Cumberland Farms Inc., presents “Cumberland Farms: A Family-Owned Business That’s Built to Last.”

Mr. Haseotes will tell the story of how the third generation of his family continues to build Cumberland Farms, the largest privately-held convenience store chain and gas retailer in the Northeast with approximately 1,000 outlets and 6,000 employees.

Cumberland Farms was founded in 1939 by Mr. Haseotes’ grandparents, Vasilios and Aphrodite Haseotes, in a small, rural farm town in Cumberland, Rhode Island. The young, Greek immigrants exchanged almost all their savings for a farm and a “starter” cow and, inspired by a vision to deliver convenience to customers at the lowest possible price, they began selling milk. Pretty soon their “milk stores” began popping up throughout the Northeast, revolutionizing how New England delivered its milk.

Over the years, the company has demonstrated a keen understanding of its customers and the changing marketplace by extending its product line to better serve “on-the-go” customers with the convenience they seek at an affordable price. Today’s product line includes fresh food, coffee, dairy and a large assortment of groceries and other items customers use every day.
The Southborough connection runs deep for Mr. Haseotes. As a young boy, he attended the Fay School and St. Marks School.

Come hear the INSIDE STORY about Cumberland Farms. How did this family business achieve such success? How is the family navigating the business to ensure it stays relevant in a fast-changing world with a weak economy?

Southborough Library’s Southborough Business Network connects the library with the Southborough business community with an informative and engaging quarterly speaker series that features business leaders with a connection to Southborough. Please bring your business card to enter a drawing for a door prize to be awarded at the end of the evening. Refreshments will be served.
