TEACHING YOUR KIDS TO TELL THE TRUTH CAN BE…FUN??
Southborough Author‘s Humorous New Book and Lively Children’s Program Put New Spin on an Important Lesson
Talking to your 4-year-old about telling the truth is important, but most people wouldn’t call it enjoyable, says Southborough author Diane E. Root. That’s why her new children’s picture book, Solomon Sire and the Fantastic Fib, gives parents an upbeat, easy way to approach what can be a daunting, moralizing, or many times just plain boring conversation.
Solomon Sire and the Fantastic Fib follows the story of a young mouse named Solomon as he experiences the allure and perils of exaggeration. After discovering the magic of his family’s Great Box filled with gems of wisdom, Solomon begins his own quest for gems, and soon creates for himself his first challenge: to stop his own ever-growing Fantastic Fib before it spirals out of control.
Written with humor and in appealing rhyme, Solomon Sire and the Fantastic Fib incorporates specific elements that make it easier for both parents and young children to discuss the idea of telling the truth. For preschoolers, the story is designed to make the abstract concept of a fib more concrete for them to understand. For parents, the book includes a guide at the end with age-appropriate questions that can be used to continue the conversation.
Children’s Program Complements Book’s Message on Telling the Truth
Root will be showcasing Solomon Sire and the Fantastic Fib at several local venues that will include a lively children’s program followed by a book signing. Parents and their children ages 4-6 are invited to attend a free program of storytelling, music, and puppets that takes a humorous look at the importance of telling the truth. The events are scheduled for the following dates:Tuesday, Nov. 20th from 7-8pm at the Maynard Public Library, Maynard, MA
Thursday, Nov. 29th from 3:45-5pm at the Southborough Public Library, Southborough, MA
Saturday, Dec. 1st from 10am-12pm at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church’s Christmas Bazaar, Southborough, MA (book signing only)
Saturday, Dec. 8th from 10am-12pm at Tatnuck Booksellers, Westborough, MA“As parents, many of us want our children to understand what it means to tell the truth, but we don’t always know what to say or how to say it,” said Root. “ My hope is this book can be an engaging starting point for dialog and an inspiration for continued family conversations that make the whole process simpler and more enjoyable for everyone. “
