Muriel M. (Nevins) Heffernan, 83, of Southborough, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of Paul M. Heffernan for the past 60 years. Born in Cambridge, she was the beloved daughter of the late James L. Nevins Sr.
Muriel graduated from Cambridge Rindge & Latin high school and received degrees from both Bentley College and Mass Bay Community College with honors. For many years she worked as an accountant for New England Telephone before being recruited to the former Zayre Corp to supervise computer operations. In her youth, Muriel was an avid roller skater and asked to judge many national competitions. After her retirement, she continued to keep up with technology and loved texting with her adored grandchildren. Muriel enjoyed the beach and vacationing on Cape Cod. She loved to cook for family and was famous for buttercream frosted birthday cakes. Muriel was an accomplished seamstress and knitter making Christmas stockings, hats, mittens, Raggedy Ann dolls & snowman sweaters for her family. She was an active member of St. Matthew Church of Southborough, and was an avid Red Sox and Patriot fan.
In addition to her husband, she leaves her children, Lee Heffernan and his wife Ruth of Norcross, GA; Paula and Tom Paquette of Monroe, NJ; Karen Roy and her husband Mike of Grafton; Michael Heffernan and his wife Peggy of Wellesley; 10 grandchildren, Patrick, Casey, David, Caroline, Elizabeth and Jack Heffernan; Tyler and Bailey Paquette; Kendal and Kyle Roy.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, December 1, from 11 AM to 12:30 PM at Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Southborough. A Mass of Christian burial will follow on Saturday afternoon at 1 PM at St. Matthew Parish, Southborough.
