Richard S. Steele, 70, of Yarmouth Port, formerly of Medway and Southborough, passed away peacefully at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital on Saturday, December 15, 2012, from a traumatic brain injury. Husband of the late Patricia (Rocheford) Steele who died of cancer in 2008.
Born in Worcester, he was the son of the late James McCall and Irene (Jacques) Steele. Richard was a graduate of North High School of Worcester and attended Wentworth Institute of Technology, in Boston. Richard was a member of the the Army National Guard in Worcester. He worked for Wellesley College and the Raytheon Company in building design and renovations. Richard spent the last three years of his life on Cape Cod.
Some of Richard’s favorite things were sports and the outdoors, especially anything having to do with the water. He was happiest as Captain of his own boat as he was an avid boater. Richard was also a very competitive golfer and enjoyed beating family members at the game.
He leaves a daughter, Bonnie Gardner and her husband James of Uxbridge; two grandchildren, Ryan and Dylan; his siblings, Edward P. Steele and his wife Ellen of Bonita Springs, FL; James D. Steele of Fort Lauderdale, FL; Jeanne Borggaard and her husband Howard of Shrewsbury; Shirley Steele of Plymouth; and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may pay their respects at the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main Street, Southborough, from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, December 20. A Mass of resurrection will follow at 11:30 at St. Mathews Church Highland St., Southborough. Burial will be at the Southborough Rural Cemetery.
