Former selectman to run for K-8 school committee

Oak Hill Road resident Roger Challen served the town for three years as a member of the Board of Selectmen. Now he’s looking to serve the town once again, but in a different capacity.

According to the Town Clerk’s office, Challen pulled papers last week to run for a 3-year seat on the K-8 School Committee. So far Challen is the only resident to do so. The seat is currently held by Deborah Keefe, but at this point she has not pulled papers to run for re-election.

Challen served on the Board of Selectmen from 2004 to 2007. According to a 2007 article by the Boston Globe, Challen decided not to run for re-election to the board so he could focus more time on his small high-tech business.

Currently Challen serves on the Municipal Technology Committee, Personnel Board, and the Town Manager Legislation Ad Hoc Committee.

“I have enjoyed serving the Town of Southborough through several appointed and elected positions, and being a member of the School Committee would be an opportunity to continue my service to the Town,” Challen said this week via email.

Residents have until March 22 to pull papers for this year’s election. See this post for more information, including a list of seats available.
