Obituary: Henry W. Welch, Jr., 86, former Advisory Board Chairman, Library Trustee

Henry W. Welch, Jr., 86 of Chatham, passed away peacefully in his home on February 6, 2013.

A career insurance man, Henry worked as a Claims Manager with the Aetna in Boston, before retiring to Chatham, where he continued his career with Rogers & Grey. Henry also served his community and his church in Southborough and Chatham. In Southborough, he served as; Chairman of the Advisory Board, Chairman of the Democratic Town Committee, Library Trustee, State Appointee to the Housing Authority, and was the founder of the Jefferson Jackson Day Committee. In Chatham he continued his service as State Appointee and later Executive Director of the Housing Authority, former Chairman of the Democratic Town Committee, one of the founders of the Chatham Ecumenical Council for the Homeless, Founder of the Cape and Islands Jefferson Jackson Day and was associated with the Board of Registrars. Henry was a graduate of Boston College and Suffolk Law School and was an instructor in insurance for Northeastern University.

Henry was predeceased by Carol, his wife of 49 years. He is survived by his 5 children and their families; Lianne and Peter Nikitas, Lisa and Frank Puleo, John Welch and Melissa Sicard, Sally Evans, Mark and Stephanie Welch; and his 7 grandchildren Alexandra, Louis Peter, Jessica, Brian, Christopher, Heidi, Sydney and his great-grandchild Jacob.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Henrys memory may be made to Holy Redeemer Church St. Vincent dePaul Society where he was a member and Eucharistic Minister. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Redeemer Church on Friday, February 15th at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial at Union Cemetery.
