Youth and Family Services needs your help to send kids to summer camp

For nearly 30 years, Southborough Youth and Family Services has operated a summer camp for middle school children. After a round of budget cuts a few years ago, they lost town funding for the program, but continued to operate thanks to the generous support of local businesses, community groups, and the Friends of the Southborough Youth Commission. This year, the donations were not enough, and SYFS made the difficult decision to cancel the camp program.

But SYFS still wants to help Southborough children who would otherwise not be able to afford summer camp enjoy some much-needed summertime activity, so they’re focusing their efforts instead on their “campership” program. For many years, SYFS has helped cover the cost of summer camp for Southborough children – last year alone they helped send 33 kids to camp. With the cost of summer camp on the rise, this year they’re reaching out for help to cover expenses.

The campership program does not receive any funding from the town, so all the money comes from private donations. In a letter to supporters, SYFS said they need to raise $10,000 to fund the program this year.

If you’d like to help SYFS raise those funds, you can make a tax-deductable donation to the Friends of the Southborough Youth Commission online. Mailed-in checks are also gladly accepted. For more information, read this letter from SYFS.
