Time for another open thread. For those of you new to the blog, the open discussion thread is your place to ask questions, sound off on town issues, or share information with other readers. Here are some suggestions to get you started:
- Ask questions about programs in town or the town itself
- Post a note about things that you’re selling or giving away, or things that you want
- Share notices about upcoming events (Southborough or otherwise)
- Register your thoughts on town issues or news stories
- Point out interesting or helpful resources
You can add comments to the thread throughout the week. Check back often to see new comments. (If you read the blog via email or RSS, you might want to check the site from time to time for new comments.)

As spring has sprung Southborough has gone ahead and begun some paving projects in the downtown area. Newton St., Latisquama, and School all have gotten or are getting a fresh coat of blacktop. Newton St. was pretty bad in my opinion, but the others seemed okay.
Meanwhile, the Main Street stretch particularly between the Firehouse and Mauros is a mine field! The weight of traffic and the seasons have certainly taken a significant toll over the years. Aside from the abandoned lot at the corner of Newton St. the road itself is the biggest eyesore in the middle of town.
Are there any plans to ‘band-aid’ or even better, repave this road before the downtown project begins in 2017? We are only talking about a few hundred yards here. Not only does it look terrible, it is down right dangerous, especially for those on road bikes.
Hopefully something can be done.
Thanks!
I agree! It really looks bad and I’ve seen elderly people attempting to cross the street and the heaves in the road really can cause a danger to them.
Today while driving on rte 9 East I noticed that the flag on the island (near White Bagley rd) is torn. Who is in charge of replacing it?
Don’t worry…..It will mysteriously be replaced in the middle of the night just before July 4. The winter was probably extra hard on it this year.
Not sure if you’ll see this “Emily”. but did you happen to notice the nice new flag on the island on july 4th? Love that tradition!
Awesome! I’m all for mystery and glad it isn’t a committee discussion or an ordeal. I noticed it the other day and so did my kids.
Anybody in the mood to tinker with an old window air conditioner? We bought it from the previous owners of our house, but it’s been sitting in our garage for 2 years since we never needed it after all. If you feel like giving it a good cleaning it’s yours for free.
The Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church Youth group will be partnering with the non-profit organization Youthworks to do a service project in Rutland, Vermont this July. There will be approximately eighty youth from all over the country participating in this mission trip. Youth will work to help clean up local parks, and participate in trail beautification. Money raised will help cover the cost of participation in this event and travel to and from this mission project. To that end, there will be a peanut free bake sale and raffle at the Southborough Transfer Station on Saturday June 8 from 10-noon.
Thank you for your support. We are excited for our teens to reach out and make a difference in the lives of others.
I will miss the Eaton Apothecary, which has moved to Milford. There’s a sign on the door and a cell phone number has been posted for customers to call for refills, but the number isn’t working. Their regular number still works, but I had a tough time getting through – constant busy signal. I guess they have their hands full transferring all those prescriptions to other pharmacies. I liked the idea of a neighborhood pharmacy, but alas…
