Summer concert series starts this Thursday: Free music helps fund “Send a Kid to Camp”

This summer, Southborough Recreation Department with local partners is producing a free Summer Concert series for charity.

The first event is this Thursday, June 20, 6-8pm at the Neary Field.

Brass Venture will perform this week, featuring Trottier’s own Mr. Jamison Clark.  (The rain date is Friday, June 21.) No need to pack dinner.  Pizza and other refreshments will be for sale. So just bring your picnic blankets and lawn chairs,

Concerts will continue weekly through August 15th on Thursdays (except for July 4th), 6pm at Neary Field.

Southborough Youth & Family Services is co-sponsoring the series. Proceeds raised through refreshments and raffles will go to Send a Kid to Camp program.  The Camp program is co-sponsored by Friends of the Southborough Youth Commission & SYFS.

As reported earlier this year, after nearly 30 years, Youth & Family Services canceled their summer camp for middle school children. It was a difficult decision made necessary by budgetary constraints.

Campers had included children who otherwise may not be able to afford camp. They are at a vulnerable age where parents may be forced by financial reasons to leave them home alone during the day for the summer.

“Send a Kid to Camp” is trying to fill the gap.

If you’d like to help SYFS raise those funds, you can make a tax-deductable donation to the Friends of the Southborough Youth Commission online. Mailed-in checks are also gladly accepted. For more information, read this letter from SYFS.

Or you can support them by buying refreshments to enjoy while listening to great music.
